This research proposal addresses the critical issue of air pollution, a global environmental challenge resulting from increased industrialization, vehicular emissions, and deforestation. The study aims to unravel the causes of air pollution, assess its impacts on both human health and the environment, and propose effective coping strategies. The research employs a qualitative approach, emphasizing the collection and analysis of existing literature through secondary data sources. Drawing on insights from renowned experts such as Bascom, Brunekreef, and Holgate, the study explores the intricate relationship between air pollution, climate change, and environmental degradation. The research process follows a systematic methodology, encompassing problem determination, literature review, conceptual clarity, data collection, analysis, and conclusive insights. Utilizing charts and diagrams, the analysis will visualize key findings, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of air pollution causes and impacts. The expected outcomes include a nuanced understanding of the root causes, a detailed exploration of environmental and health consequences, and the identification of strategies to mitigate air pollution’s adverse effects.

Environmental Impacts of Air Pollution and Strategies to cope with it
Research Questions
The research questions for this study are formulated as follows.
1. What are the key causes of air pollution?
2. What are the impacts of the air pollution on the environment?
3. What strategies can be undertaken to cope with it?
Literature Review
In the modern world, one of the key issues faced by the environment is air pollution. The rising number of
vehicles, factories and activities such as deforestation has caused pollution of air and thus, the quality of
air is degrading (Bascom et al 2016). There are plenty of health and environmental impacts of air
pollution. Air pollution has put the life of human beings on risk. As per Brunekreef & Holgate (2012),
certain groups of people are sensitive to the common air pollutants, such as children, older people,
patients of heart and lung diseases. However, air pollution does not only cause negative influence on the
human beings but have serious environmental impacts as well. Some of the key environmental effects
include acid rain, eutrophication, haze and effects on wildlife (Brunekreef & Holgate, 2012). All these
impact the climate and hence lead to rapid fluctuations in the environment. Due to the air pollution, the
problems such as ozone depletion and global warming are carried. Therefore, it needed to take some
immediate steps to deal with the menace of air pollution and cope with them (Bascom et al 2016).
Research Methodologies
The research methodology taken in this study is qualitative. As per Creswell (2013), qualitative research
is a type of scientific research, which aims at using predefined set of procedures to collect the evidence
and generate findings. Also, qualitative study helps in generating findings that are beyond the boundaries
of the study. In this study, qualitative research has been chosen instead of quantitative since it provides
ability to the researcher for complex textual descriptions (Creswell, 2013). In this study, the researcher
will be adopting secondary data collection methods. This study is entirely dependent on exploring the
existing literature about the research topic. The primary research methods have not been used in this study
to collect data (Creswell, 2013).

Research Process
As per Gephart (2004), scientific research involves a systematic process emphasizing on meeting the
objectives and collecting data for the analysis to enable the researcher to come to a conclusion. The
research process is used in the research and evaluation projects, irrespective of the research method.
There are different steps to be included in the study.
• Determination of the problem
• Review the literature
• Clarify the problem
• Clarify the terms and concepts
• Develop the instrumentation plan
• Collect data
• Analyse Data
• Generate conclusion
The first step is the determination of the problem for the study. The second step is to develop the literature
review and clarify the problem. The third step is to clarify the terms and concepts. The fourth step is to
collect the data and analyse it. The last step is to generate the conclusion.
Data Collection and Analysis Methods
The data collection methods used in different studies includes primary and secondary. As per Gephart
(2004), primary methods help in collecting data using first-hand sources, such as focus groups, interviews
and surveys. On the other hand, secondary methods help in collecting data by exploring the existing
research related to the research topic (Marshall & Rossman, 2014). In this study, the data collection
method adopted is secondary method. The researcher will depend on the existing research done to collect
the data. On the other hand, the analysis of the data is done using the charts and diagrams. The researcher
will be using pie charts and graphs to represent the data.
Expected Research Outcomes
The expected research outcomes of this study are as follows.
• To determine the key causes of air pollution
• To examine the impacts of the air pollution on the environment
• To determine the strategies that can be undertaken to cope with it
5
In this study, the researcher will focus towards examining the causes of air pollution and analyzing the
impacts of the air pollution on the environment. The researcher will determine the strategies to cope with
the situation.
