Moreover, this leader actively nurtures the team’s confidence in approaching government officers and departments for various projects and requirements.

Introduction

Leadership can be a very tricky skill to perfect and it’s important for every leader to consider

all aspect linked to their leadership approaches so as to ensure the best quality (Avolio &

Yammarino, 2013). No matter how charismatic a leader may be its important for the leader to

observe their approaches and study their team members so as to develop effective marketing

approaches.

I have worked at several companies and each has had a different leader but most have

exhibited either very possessive or weak skills, one specific leader stood out and continues to

be an inspiration to me till date. One special trait linked to the leader was his confidence in

approaching and discussing with high profile government officers and departments. This

resulted in making him very busy and he spends 80% of his time out of the office visiting

government offices and projects (Furlong, 2013). But he also made sure he delivered 20%

time towards assisting the employees at the office who he would help guide and assist during

periods when they needed guidance. He empowered each team member with their

responsibility and while he was strictly linked to meeting his expectations, he also delivered

ample freedom to the team members towards decisions and working independently. He also

made sure to guide the team towards building confidence related to their own personality,

skill and confidence to approach the government for projects and work. This resulted in each

team member gradually developing the confidence to approach government officers and

department regarding different projects and requirements they had.

But while he was very supportive he was also very strict regarding the meeting of deadlines,

work efficiency and quality. This is very important as it allows the leader retain control over

the team members and be able to assert their authority towards bringing the team members

into line and ensure proper performance (Odom, 2010). But while he was strict and took strict

actions against individuals that did not meet his expectations, he also evaluated the situation

and diffuses the situation before demotivating the team member over the limit. This he

achieved by first enforcing his power and authority and waiting for an hour of two after

which he would intervene once more and assist the individual resolve the problem they were

experiencing. While enforcing one's power has been identified to be very important, it can

also be misused leading to serious complications and even loss of skilled professionals. This

makes it important for charismatic leaders to adopt suitable approaches which help guide the

staff on the right path but also retain a high level of professionalism while still retaining staffs

confidence.

Conclusion

Leadership has grown to become an art which leaders must perfect to ensure they develop a

powerful and highly skilled and dedicated team (Canals, 2012). This will automatically result

in the business experiencing success simply due to the team members observing the

organisation their own and putting in their best effort to ensure it develops and grows.
